Study On if the single
cylinder can work as the other one fails in dual-cylinder luffing system of
stacker and reclaimer

Since the dual-cylinder hydraulic luffing system of stacker and
reclaimer is used for twenty years, customers hope that if one cylinder
can lift the luffing system up and down in case of the other one fails.
In fact, however, such function has never been achieved it is often
emphasized in the contract. Meanwhile, the following points shall been
met as the precondition to realize such function:
1.Rigidness, strength and stability of structures shall satisfy at the
special load condition when one of cylinder fails. No crack, large
deformation or buckling of structure occurs at this situation.
2.The single cylinder can afford twice of the load as the normal
operating condition. Which means the pressure of oil in the single
cylinder shall be twice as in normal operation condition. Thus, in this
case, the pressure of hydraulic system shall be much higher.
3.The hydraulic oil of the failed cylinder can return to oil tank as the
other one working.
4.The hydraulic system can be shifted in manual manipulation from
dual-cylinder to single one enhance the reliability of the luffing
system.
